UAlbany pins 2019 to start ‘tobacco-free’ policy

Havidan Rodriguez on Wednesday announced plans to implement a “tobacco free” policy at the University at Albany campus come January, a discussion mulled over during recent administrations.

All smoking devices, including vaporizers and electronic cigarettes, will also be prohibited.

“I am confident that this initiative will provide a healthier, cleaner, and safer environment for all members of our UAlbany community,” the university president said in a statement.

Smoking is already prohibited within 10 feet of university building entrances and 30 feet of outdoor vents. This policy, however, is rarely enforced.

It’s not yet certain how the new policy will be enforced come 2019.
